Back home. We are home. BUT…..never to be forgotten. From the “Prehistoric” to the “Ancients to the “Modern”. We were given the opportunities to see through their eyes with our eyes and cameras to capture our visions of Iceland. O…See More
Photo: Back home. We are home. BUT…..never to be forgotten. From the “Prehistoric” to the “Ancients to the “Modern”. We were given the opportunities to see through their eyes with our eyes and cameras to capture our visions of Iceland. Our guides knew when and where we had to be for the best opportunities. Even if the weather gods did not smile on on us all the time. It was a great photo tour and Glenda and I are already being called back. Thanks to all that contributed to a great tour. Thank You
My Iceland Journey album should be on this site in about a week.

Video made from photographs taken on Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 1 and 2, 2013 at Disney World, Orlando, Florida
Images are of Disney landmarks, with fireworks, colored lights, lasers, smoke, water, fire and smoke.

Next Sunday I will have the 4Runner packed with my camera gear and pointed south. I will head out of Canada and into the United States. I hope to get out of the snow pack by night one in Kansas City. My first scheduled 4 day stop will be the Viera Wetlands in Florida. Followed by a week in Key West with the family to celebrate Christmas and of course a couple of sessions with the cameras. Looking forward to some night time photography with the Nikon D800. Glenda and I will then move of to Disney World and spend 4 days over New Years in the Magic Kingdom. I will then kiss my dear wife goodbye. Then off to 5 days in and around the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
After that I will point the vehicle sort of North West and up to Canada. Nothing planned for this portion of the photographic adventure journey. Not a rush to get home. As my flight to Iceland does not depart until February 27th, 2013

Take Care and Be Safe,

This photograph was made last night at Beaudry Park.
Here are the technical details.
Nikon D4 with Nikkor 14-24mm lens, on a tripod
Focal length was set at 24mm
4 min. exposure at f5.6
ISO 100
Weather: partly cloudy sky, slight ground fog, 1/4 moon high in sky
Light sources, the moon, light box effect of the city lights in the cloud and fog. The two sodium lights in the parking lot.
I was drawn to the scene by all the different sources of light that were present. I knew colour balance was going to be difficult but they were providing a interesting display of light and shadows.
What I envisioned was a scene that was easily recognized and followed a standard set of landscape “rules”. But that would show the effects of the various light sources/colour balances. Along with the resulting different shadow angles.
It was an evening of experimentation. Hoping for a pleasant but different rendition of a “Winter Night River”
Thanks to the folks at Lightroom 4, Photoshop 6 and Nik Software.

During a visit to The Manitoba Museum here in Winnipeg yesterday. I found myself looking at a diorama of a 1920′s harvest scene. The diorama was the usual type. Painted background with life size mannequins and various elements to make up the scene. After a few shots and examining them on the LCD at 1:1, I decided that a 7 shot with 1 stop difference HDR would be the best starting spot.
The HDR was processed in Lightroom via Nik HDR Efex Pro. Then moved over to Photoshop for some selective sharpening and dodge and burn. Next was a few selective tweaks in Nik Viveza 2 and Nik Color Efex Pro 4. Then finally in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
Hope you enjoy its transition from diorama to Fine Art

There is a saying “Build it and they will come” well for about 10 years now I was wanting to do something that would attract Blue Jays to our back yard. After watching Moose Peterson’s newest video over on Kelby Training, Getting Started in Wildlife Photography I was further motivated. Thanks Moose.
Well I finally did it and this was the result the other afternoon.

Saturday Oct. 12, 2012 was a perfect fall day here in Winnipeg. It started with a 05:15hr drive to the airport to drop my wife off. That is for another story.
At 11:00hrs our local “Leader” Dave Bensen heralded in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk. I joined 49 other enthusiastic photographers for a two hour stroll through Assiniboine Park. It was a great event with all sorts of age levels , skills and equipment. We had everything from “lensebabies” to 500mm on gimbel tripods. The walk over BUT……….of course some of us had to partake in the customary instant replay at a local Tim’s.
This is my contribution to the walk.

Then the evening came, time for another walk. I had no idea what to really expect.
We started with what has become a customary starting point for events in that part of the city. A planning session a VJ’s a local burger joint.
Then it was off the Oodena Celebration Circle at “The Forks”. For the start of the 2012 Winnipeg Zombie Walk. Wow what an event the gathering started. This was not the event I was expecting. Thousands of men, women and children of all ages started appearing as Zombies. It was just amazing the costumes and makeup these people appeared in. The Official event start off with several fire eating and fire twirling Zombies performing. This was a photographer friendly place for sure. It was if the Zombies got a benefit of some kind for having their photograph taken.
One and a half sets of batteries in the SB-900 attested to the photos being taken.
As I said this was a family affair and some of the Zombies were horrific. One of them came made up but was wearing a “Canada” Jestor hat.
So my milder contribution is a couple of Zombie, Love Birds.

Spent the Thanksgiving weekend in the Ottawa, ON with relatives. In between visits with relatives I was able to find some picture time. Found some good location in and around Ottawa in Ontario and up in the Gatineau Park in Quebec. The drought conditions during the summer and early fall had a somewhat detrimental effect of the consistency of the fall colours this year.
On the last day we were in Merrickville south of Ottawa. The weather was so-so but managed a few interesting shot at the canal and locks in the town along the Rideau River.
Sure like the way the D800 handles under this conditions and this HDR was taken hand held.
Take Care and Be Safe, Chris
Both were taken in Gatineau Park in the Capital Region

These three new Journey Gallery’s are from photography adventures I made during the first part of this year. I hope you enjoy them and drop me an email if I can be of any service to you or if you have any questions about the photographs.
